Live issue: Azure UK South capacity

Azure UK South is running out of room. We’ll keep you running.

App Service quotas, blocked VM and AKS deployments, and bottlenecks across UK regions are hitting public sector and enterprise teams hard. IG CloudOps steps in fast — without forcing your data offshore.

What’s happening

Azure’s UK regions are full — and your roadmap shouldn’t suffer.

Multiple users — including organisations spending millions a year on Azure — report being unable to provision new workloads in UK South or UK West. We’ve been hearing the same from teams across the public sector.

Capacity Exhausted

No additional quota available across UK South or UK West — new VMs and AKS clusters are being blocked outright.

App Service Quotas

App Service limits and provisioning failures are bottlenecking critical operations for businesses across the UK.

Sovereignty Risk

Microsoft is steering customers towards Sweden — a non-starter for regulated workloads where data residency is mandatory.

The Register: “Users complain that UK Azure is having capacity problems”

“Azure UK is full. Like full full.”

A Register reader, whose firm spends millions per year on Azure, was told there is no additional quota in either UK South or UK West — the only Azure regions in the area. The result: no new VMs, no new AKS clusters.

Microsoft pointing customers to Sweden

Support staff have reportedly suggested customers redeploy workloads to Sweden. For organisations bound by data residency rules — healthcare, finance, government — moving data offshore simply isn’t an option.

Widespread, not isolated

Reddit threads and other social channels show many UK customers hitting the same wall, with users blaming “piss poor planning” for datacenter expansion that hasn’t kept pace with demand.

Microsoft’s response: a non-answer

Microsoft pointed to its 80 global regions and said it “continuously monitors and adjusts” capacity, without addressing the UK shortfall directly or whether staff were steering users overseas.

Sovereignty becomes the real issue

Civo CEO Mark Boost warns that pushing workloads abroad turns a technical problem into a sovereignty one — introducing compliance risk many businesses simply can’t accept.

We’ve been here before — now blamed on AI

Azure capacity ran dry in 2020 too (then blamed on COVID demand). This time, AI workloads are the suspected culprit. Insiders suggest relief may not arrive until around October.
